Image Degas- The Dancer 12.5" / 307MC
$96.00

She stands as only a dancer could stand. Everyone is aware of her special formation from head to toe. Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans (Little Dancer of Fourteen Years), 1881 (The Baltimore Museum of Art's cast was made 1919-1921) is the only sculpture Degas chose to exhibit in his lifetime. He created a revolutionary piece by breaking the stereotypical cold inanimate sculptures of his time. He made his dancer come to life. The original, made of bronze and wax mixture, stands 39" tall (The Baltimore Museum of Art's cast is 38" tall) and is dressed in a bodice of yellow silk, a skirt made of gauze, real ballet slippers, and hair made of horsehair, which is tied back with a satin bow.
Adapted from Edgar Degas' Petite Danseuse de Quatorze Ans-
The Baltimore Museum of Art.
